Dorothy Dorow muore nel 2017 all'età di 86 anni, era un soprano che si è fatto un nome come interprete di alcune delle opere più difficili che i compositori d'avanguardia del 20° secolo potessero proporle: intervalli goffi, note alte, squittii e strilli erano la sua specialità, grazie al suo tono perfetto, alla capacità di leggere le partiture più complesse e alla voce flessibile con un'estensione di quasi quattro ottave. [awkward intervals, high notes, squeaks and squawks were her speciality, thanks to her perfect pitch, ability to read the most complex of scores and flexible voice with a range of almost four octaves....]
Dorothy Dorow fu una formidabile modernista che ha eseguito in prima assoluta opere di Ligeti, Hene, Dallapiccola, Nono, Birtwistle, Madena, Boulez e altri non meno impegnativi.
Si era ritirata in Cornovaglia dopo aver vissuto per molti anni nei Paesi Bassi.
La morte è avvenuta il 15 aprile 2017.
